What factors will affect the life of plastic moulds?

The service life of the Injection Moulding refers to the total number of products that the mold can process while ensuring the quality of the product parts being processed. It includes the life after multiple grindings of the working surface and the replacement of wearing parts. Let`s take a look at what factors will affect the life of plastic injection moulds.

1. Mold Structure

Reasonable mould structure can help improve the load-bearing capacity of the mould and reduce the thermal and mechanical load on the mould. A reliable mould guide mechanism can avoid mutual gnawing between the punch and the concave mould; the cold piers and cold extrusion moulds that bear high-intensity loads can prevent stress concentration by changing the cross-sectional size.

2. Mold Material

The life of the mould is closely related to its material. The greater the production quantity, the greater the load during working time, and the higher the material requirements. For this, high performance materials mould with strong load-bearing capacity and long service life should be selected.

3. Mold Processing Quality

Defects caused during the processing and heat treatment of mould parts will affect the life of the mould. For example: residual tool marks on the surface of the mold, microcracks caused by EDM, carburizing powder and decarburization on the surface during heat treatment, etc., all have an impact on the load-bearing capacity and life of the mold.

4. Mold Working Status

When the Injection Mould is working, it must frequently go through mold closing, locking, injection, pressure maintaining, cooling, mold opening, ejection and other processes. During this working process, it is necessary to ensure that each working mechanism works reliably, quickly and flexibly. Therefore, each moving part needs to move without hindrance and have reliable lubrication. The operator is required to pay constant attention to the maintenance and upkeep of the mold to keep it in optimal working condition.

5. Condition of Product Parts

The surface quality, material hardness, elongation and other mechanical properties of the parts processed by the defendant, as well as the dimensional accuracy of the parts being processed, are all directly related to the life of the mold. For example, a special synthetic mold with a mass fraction of 80% nickel can easily bite strongly with the working surface of the Plastic Mould, causing the working surface to bite and roughen, which directly affects whether the mold can work normally.
